Researcher

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for 4 x Researchers to support Operation Hydrant and Operation Beaconport. The main purpose of the research role is to provide support and assistance to the analytical function in their reporting of the scale, threat and nature of child sexual abuse and exploitation. This in turn feeds in to the CSE taskforce as directed by the Home Office. The role requires detailed research, reading and categorisation of child sexual abuse and exploitation crimes recorded across the UK.

Location: Positions can be fully remote with some expensed travel to the office based in Sheffield occassionally. 
Contract: 6 months initially, likely to be extended a number of years.
Salary: PAYE Rate: £20.98 / Umbrella: £26.65 per hour
Vetting: Must be eligible for Security Vetting (will be fast tracked).

Main Responsibilities

  • Maintain an awareness of Hydrant Programme and key partner agencies current strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Maintain knowledge of the current systems and software used and interacted with by  Hydrant
  • Programme as well as nationally across all police forces.
  • Research information to add to reports and performance products to inform decision making and direct operational activity.
  • Produce, evaluate and take responsibility for production of regular force information and reports.
  • Liaise with and work in partnership with other organisations to gather and research information.
  • Collect, collate and evaluate data from a wide range of open and closed sources.
  • Produce accurate and easy to use reports which contribute to products produced by analysts.
  • Reading and categorising large amounts of material relating to child sexual abuse and exploitation which is sensitive in nature.
  • Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by management.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria

  • Experience of researching and collating data
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate and timely reports
  • Proven problem solving skills, ability to use own initiative and work under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, being articulate and able to debate issues
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of performance and intelligence management processes and techniques
  • Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills

Desirable Criteria

  • A working knowledge of Evidence Based Policing principles and policing systems e.g. niche, connect, Athena, PND, PNC
  • Previous experience of, or trained in the use of Microsoft Excel or analytical and data mining tools such as Power BI.
  • A basic understanding of crime recording across local policing systems.
