Safeguarding Manager

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for a Safeguarding Manager on behalf of a national governing body for sports in the UK.

This is an interim position initially, to cover the permanent recruitment of the post. However, the interim postholder will be given the opportunity to apply for the post on a permanent basis.

The interim post can be undertaken fully remote, but the permanent postholder will be required to attend the office in Nottingham twice per week.

Role Purpose

To lead on the development and embedding of safeguarding throughout the governing body, including, clubs, centres and the disciplines of the sport, and ensure safeguarding case management and disclosure checks are completed effectively and efficiently to ensure best practice.

Main duties and responsibilities
 

  • Ensure and report on the delivery of the organisational strategy for safeguarding, safety & welfare and performance wellbeing, establishing appropriate annual plans and monitoring success.
  • Ensure safeguarding is embedded across the organisation, oversee support and advice to colleagues, clubs, committees and volunteers to support the development of best practice in safeguarding reporting, prevention and training.
  • Develop and maintain safeguarding policies, procedures, resources and guidance to ensure resources remain relevant and up to date with legislative changes and best practice.
  • Supervise and provide support to the Safeguarding Case Officer with the management of safeguarding cases to ensure all cases are handled efficiently and effectively in line with policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Act as a point of contact for safeguarding concerns within the performance programmes.
  • Represent the organisation on the Safeguarding Case Management Group and be responsible for ensuring the group is effective in its decision making and is appropriately structured.
  • Ensure the Board and Governance Committee are appropriately informed on all safeguarding matters.
  • Work across departments and liaise with external partners to ensure the organisation meets statutory safeguarding standards, including managing the annual CPS Framework assessment process.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Home Nations on all safeguarding matters, including representing the organisation at the Safeguarding Steering Group meetings.
  • Supervise the administration of DBS checks, acting as a point of contact for referrals or questions on escalated DBS matters, referring adverse DBS checks to the Safeguarding Case Management Group for their consideration where necessary.

Person Specification
 

  • Evidence of recent experience of working within the field of safeguarding at a senior/managerial level.
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding case management.
  • Experience and understanding of Disclosure requirements.
  • Excellent IT, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to form excellent working relationships, and exert influence to effect positive change.
  • Ability to relate well, empathise and communicate with a wide range of people.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential matters with integrity and sensitivity.
  • Relevant qualifications which support the expertise within the safeguarding field (i.e. Social Services, Police, NHS Education or other relevant field working with Children).
