The post holder will oversee high-profile crime scene investigations, including the evaluation, collection, and packaging of evidence for scientific analysis. Key responsibilities include attending post-mortem examinations, documenting findings, and spending approximately 70% of time processing crime scenes, handling evidence, and conducting autopsy photography. The role also involves participation in briefings and conferences, with additional duties as required to maintain the highest forensic standards.
Principal responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
• Investigate and process major crime scenes, including homicides, sexual assaults, and robberies.
• Identify, collect, and preserve forensic evidence using scientific techniques.
• Photograph and document crime scenes, including post-mortem examinations.
• Package, seal, and label forensic evidence for examination.
• Provide expert witness testimony in court, explaining forensic findings clearly.
• Prepare detailed reports and forensic intelligence documentation.
• Assist partnering agencies with forensic investigations, including DNA testing and drug-related cases.
Knowledge, Education & Work Experience:
• The post holder should possess:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or Physics with 1–3 years of experience working in similar positions; OR
• Diploma in Scenes of Crime with 4–7 years of experience working in similar positions.
• Any other relevant qualification combined with commensurate years of experience in a similar role may also be considered.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Certification as a Crime Scene Examiner.
• Certification and experience in manual, automated and digital photography and enhancement.
• Encouraged to obtain memberships in professional, reputable and relevant organizations as well as to attend forensic seminars, meetings and to continue professional development in this field of study.
