  • Provide operational leadership to multi-disciplinary teams, setting priorities, managing performance and ensuring delivery of investigative objectives
  • Engage with victims’ families, witnesses and communities to provide reassurance, manage expectations and maintain confidence in the police
  • Collaborate with internal units and external partners such as the Crown Prosecution Service, HMCTS, coroners and local authorities to secure effective case progression and judicial outcomes
  • Ensure investigations comply with the Major Crime Investigation Manual, Authorised Professional Practice (APP) and Major Incident Room Standardised Administrative Procedures (MIRSAP), maintaining investigative integrity and auditability
  • Undertaking comprehensive risk assessments for operational events to ensure adequate safety procedures are in place and that an appropriate contingency plan has been developed
  • Lead post-investigation debriefs and organisational learning processes, embedding best practice into future operations
