We are currently recruiting for experienced Safeguarding Officer to work on a full-time, long-term contract in Oldbury, Birmingham.
The role is paying £16.45p per hour (PAYE)
The role will be situated within the Police, so applicants must be able to obtain national security vetting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies and safety plans to safeguard High risk (crime and non-crime) victims of domestic abuse (DA), including rape and serious sexual offences (RASSO), attempted murder, most serious violence offences (MSV), Honour Based Abuse (HBA), and Forced Marriage, jointly with relevant partner agencies, and in accordance with Force policy.
- Conduct risk-based visits with victims of domestic abuse, either as a sole agency or jointly.
- Ensure relevant children /vulnerable adults are safeguarded.
- Conduct comprehensive intelligence checks using PNC, PND, Connect, Control works, Insight and other systems to support safeguarding strategies.
- Prepare for, attend and actively contribute to relevant meetings, case conferences, strategy discussions, Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), and Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) meetings where appropriate and completing actions from these meetings in accordance with timescales.
- Identify and negotiate refuge and other safeguarding accommodation, locally and nationally, and where necessary ensure that appropriate transport is arranged and victims are safely accommodated.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of force policy and procedure, legislation, and guidance concerning Domestic Abuse, Honour Based Abuse, and Forced Marriage, alongside national polit schemes and initiatives, local and national best practice and recommendations, ensuring protocol is followed.
- Work closely with Domestic Abuse Offender Managers to support intervention strategies with domestic abuse perpetrators.
- Prepare documents and files, attend court and lay information to support the application of civil orders (Eg. FMPO).
- Provide support and guidance to front line officers regarding the completion of risk assessments (incl. DASH, Karma Nirvana, Stalking), HBA Protocol, and emergency accommodation.
- Review and complete referrals received in accordance with the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (Clare’s law). Review urgent referrals and escalate to a supervisor for action.
Essential:
- Experience of working in an environment dealing with the public.
- Working knowledge of confidentiality and data protection issues.
- Working in an environment that have developed and implemented strategies and safety plans.
- Experience of working with partner agencies / multi agency environment.
Desirable:
- Previous experience of working in a Domestic Abuse environment or with partner agencies.
- Access to / ability to use WMP IT systems – Connect, PNC, PND. (Training will be provided.)
- Working knowledge of Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE), Domestic Abuse legislation and Multi-agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC.)
- Experience of managing conflict / Awareness of conflict management processes.
- Exceptional organisational skills-must be able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Evidence of competent IT Skills- including ability to use Sharepoint.(Training will be provided. )
- Ability to persuade and influence.
- Demonstrable flexibility and self-motivation. On occasions will be expected to work without direct supervision and will be required to make decisions using own initiative.
- Ability to manage and prioritise their own workload and where appropriate, support that of the team.
- Ability to demonstrate effective presentation skills (ie – MARAC / other multi- agency meetings.)
- Ability to participate effectively in partnership meetings, making valuable contributions.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
- The successful candidate will be provided with relevant training in legislation relating to Domestic Abuse, personal safety techniques and will be offered mentoring / ongoing support from a small team of Domestic Abuse specialist staff.
