Investigations Assistant

Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for 3 Investigation Assistants to support an executive non-departmental public body of the Scottish Government responsible for investigating complaints by members of the public against Police Scotland.

Location: Hamilton (Office Based + some travel required)
Contract: 3 months
Salary: £18.55 PAYE / £24.63 UMB per hour
Vetting: Ideally NPPV3 vetted, or able to be vetted to this level.

Investigations Assistants will provide support to staff within Investigations Teams and will report to a nominated SI who will manage them. The role will encompass a wide variety of both administrative and non-critical investigative tasks which will require proven administrative skills in relation to enquiry management systems and production handling. In addition, the role requires proven experience in respect of non-critical investigative functions where it is considered unlikely to require future court attendance.

Main activities of the role
Administrative Functions

  • Ensure that all productions are appropriately packaged, labelled and recorded on relevant databases in accordance with relevant guidance and thereafter that these are securely stored in line with PIRC processes
  • Responsible for the uplift and delivery of productions between identified locations across Scotland, ensuring that the movement and transfer is accurately recorded.
  • Investigative administrative functions, to include transposing of relevant assessment material onto and case related documents onto enquiry databases, creation of and updates to investigative tasks on the CLUE database.
  • Management of statements onto relevant enquiry databases.
  • Recording of enquiry hours onto CLUE database.
  • Archiving of investigative material on completion of enquiry.

Non—Critical Investigative Functions

  • Undertake CCTV trawls at locations directed by the Lead Investigator.
  • Undertake House to House enquiries to identify potential witnesses and subsequent letter drops.
  • Review Airwave and Telephony logs with potential to compile transcripts.
  • Review CCTV material to identify relevant footage with potential to compile viewing logs.
  • When considered appropriate to accompany Investigators undertaking enquiries.
  • Complete Disclosure of Evidence schedules.

Person Specification
Qualifications

  • Good standard of general education – minimum (minimum SCQF level 6 or equivalent) including English or equivalent relevant qualification/ proven experience in a similar role.

Experience

  • Previous investigative experience.
  • Experience of carrying out administrative processes within investigations.
  • Experience in using enquiry management databases.
  • Experience in the recording and handling of productions.
  • Experience in procedures required in respect of digital evidence
  • Experience of working in an environment where confidentiality and discretion are essential.
  • Experience supporting operational/business delivery or organisational performance improvement programmes.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to deal effectively with sensitive or difficult situations.
  • Excellent organisational and self-management skills with ability to prioritise tasks and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in all work.
  • Team player who can also work on own initiative and under pressure to achieve positive results.
  • Knowledge of Police, Public Order and Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 2006 and/or Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012.
