Police Chief Inspector / Detective Chief Inspector (94077)

The States of Guernsey are seeking to appoint a Chief Inspector or a Detective Chief Inspector to join Bailiwick of Guernsey Law Enforcement.

The Chief Inspector role forms part of the Senior Leadership Team of Bailiwick Law Enforcement. As part of that team, the post holder will be responsible for providing strategic and tactical advice on assigned portfolio matters including the formulation of policy and procedure, and feeding into the development of the overall organisational strategic planning process.

The role has management responsibility for large teams of Police officers and civilian staff. The post holder may be the most senior operational response officer or manage assigned specialist functions such as investigations or corporate programmes. This role carries specific legal powers to support organisational activities.

Chief Inspectors are required to plan, manage and monitor operational activity. They effectively and efficiently set the plan for deployment of resources to incidents including major or critical incidents. Chief Inspectors manage and mitigate risk efficiently in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of officers, staff and the public and to respond effectively to problems, incidents and crime and to take the lead role in identifying, developing and updating suitable control strategies to existing, new or emerging threats.

Law Enforcement Vetting:

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Law Enforcement Vetting e-Form. If you are successful after interview, a copy of your passport and your Guernsey Social Security Number or UK National Insurance number will be forwarded to the Guernsey Vetting Unit by HR; please ensure this information is entered / uploaded onto your job application. A link to access your Law Enforcement Vetting e-Form will then be sent to you via email by the Guernsey Vetting Unit.

In order to satisfy residency criteria, you need to have been resident in the UK or Guernsey for a period of 10 years. The calculation of the period of time refers to the period immediately before an application is made and not any other period or accumulation of time spent in the UK or Guernsey. Convictions likely to be considered relevant to this post include crimes involving Theft, Dishonesty and Fraud.

This role offers off-Island candidates an 8-year Long Term Employment Permit (see details below). This permit will also enable candidates to bring immediate family members with them who will be permitted to work on the Island in any sector.
