For certain offences drug testing is now compulsory upon arrest. ARWs provide drug assessments and advice to offenders arrested for these key offences or who test positive for Class A drugs. Usually assessments will take place at the police station at the point of arrest. For offenders who want to engage with drug services and are released on bail, the Arrest Referral worker will refer to the appropriate service and offer the offender encouragement and support to take up the help offered.
