Each prison has access to Psychology services, with high security prisons often having their own psychologist. For the remaining prisons Psychology Services are delivered by an area psychologist responsible for one of the eleven prison areas within England and Wales. From time to time there are opportunities to recruit qualified or ‘in-training’ psychologists.
Psychology Assistants Include
Psychology Assistants are frequently employed to support the psychology function within a prison. Psychology assistants may variously undertake offender assessments for programme suitability, one to one work with offenders, tutoring on group programmes, data collection to support performance targets or pieces of research to support the aims of reducing re offending. They can also work within Prison Offender Management Units to support the Offender Management process.
Applicants must have 5 GCE/GCSE (grade A* – C) including English Language and Mathematics or NVQ in Business Administration level ll.
