Referral Order Co-Coordinator

Approximately half of young people who are supervised in the Community are on Referral Orders which until recently have only been able to be used when a young person has pleaded guilty to an offence when it is their first time in Court unless the offence is so serious that custody is required. The young person and their parents/carers then has to attend a panel meeting with two community volunteers and a panel adviser from the YOT to agree a contract or plan which needs to repair the harm caused by the offence and address the causes of the offending behaviour.

The Criminal Justice and Immigration Act has expanded the potential use of Referral Orders.

The Referral Order Co-Coordinator will manage all the Referral Order processes according to National Standards and their responsibilities will include

• Setting Panel dates and co-ordinating the availability of the volunteers
• Recruitment, induction and supervision of volunteers from diverse backgrounds
• Co-ordinating the provision of Referral Order reports from YOT practitioners
• Monitoring progress and co-ordinating the processes for breach and early discharge for good progress
• Monitoring Service User satisfaction
• Assisting with the completion of Referral Order reports if required.
• Communication with sentencers
• Meeting targets and preparation of monitoring reports.
• Some budget management may be involved

Some evening and weekend work would be required.

Some Referral Order Co-Coordinators also assist with or have responsibility for Volunteer co-ordination to work with young people at risk of offending or reoffending.
